Frequently Asked Questions

Do Indians need a visa for Vietnam?
Indian passport holders need a valid visa to enter Vietnam for tourism purposes. You can easily apply for an e-visa online without needing to visit an embassy or consulate.
What are the Vietnam e-visa eligibility criteria for Indians?
  • You should be living outside Vietnam.
  • You must have a passport valid for at least 6 months.
  • You shouldn’t be on the list of people temporarily banned from entering Vietnam, as outlined in Article 21 of the “Law on Foreigners' entry into, exit from, transit through, and residence in Vietnam.” [This includes, for instance, foreigners who are barred due to reasons such as forging documents to gain entry or concerns related to national security.]
What are the Vietnam visa requirements for Indians?
  • Passport: A scanned copy of your passport, valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date in Vietnam. Ensure that your passport also has at least one blank page.
  • Photograph: A recent passport-size coloured photograph meeting the Vietnam visa photo requirements. Vietnam requires a 4x6cm digital photo. The photo must have a plain white background, and you should be looking directly at the camera without glasses or headwear (except for religious purposes). Atlys augments your photo to meet the necessary requirements.

What is the Vietnam visa fees for Indians?

How can I check the status of my Vietnam tourist visa online?
You can easily track the status of your Vietnam e-visa application using the Atlys "my profile" dashboard or the Vietnam visa status tracking tool.
What should I do if I have not received my Vietnam e-visa after the processing time?
Delays in receiving your visa can occur due to various reasons, such as high application volumes or technical issues. If you have not received your Vietnam e-visa within the expected processing time, you have two options:

  • Check Atlys my profile dashboard to check visa updates
  • Check your email’s spam or junk folder to see if you missed any updates.
  • If you haven't received an email, contact the Atlys support team.
Tip: Always apply for your e-visa well in advance to account for any potential delays and avoid last-minute travel disruptions.
Do I need to print my Vietnam e-visa?
Yes, you must print out your e-visa before travelling to Vietnam, as you will need to present a physical copy when you land at the airport.
Can I apply for a family or group Vietnam e-visa?
Yes, you can apply for e-visas for your family or group members in a single application session on Atlys, which streamlines the process and allows you to manage all applications simultaneously. However, each member’s details, including passport information and photographs, will need to be provided.
Can I make corrections to my Vietnam visa application after submission?
No, you cannot edit or correct your application once it has been submitted. If you notice any errors after submission, you will need to fill out a fresh application and pay the visa fee again. Please note the fee for the initial application is non-refundable.

Tip: Take your time when filling out the application form and double-check all entries before submission to avoid the need for a new application.
How can I ensure my Vietnam e-visa application is not rejected?
Here are a few points you can keep in mind to ensure that your Vietnam visa application is approved:

  • Error-free application: Complete the visa application form accurately and completely. Submitting false information can lead to visa rejection. When applying, make sure to have your passport by your side to cross-check and fill in the details.
  • Valid passport: Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months and has sufficient blank pages. If not, renew your passport before applying.
  • Recent photographs: It is important to submit recent passport-sized photographs that meet the specific requirements of the Vietnamese immigration authorities. Avoid heavy filters to ensure you look the same way as seen in the photograph.
Can I reapply for a Vietnam e-visa after rejection?
Yes, if your Vietnam visa application is rejected, you can reapply. However, it is important to understand the reasons for the rejection and address them in your new application. Alternatively, you may seek assistance from Atlys visa experts to increase your chances of approval on the second attempt.
Can I apply for a Vietnam tourist visa if my passport is about to expire?
No, your passport must be valid for at least six months from your arrival date in Vietnam. If your passport is close to expiring, you should renew it before applying for the visa.
Do I have to enter Vietnam on the exact date specified on my e-visa?
No, entering on the exact date is not mandatory. You can enter Vietnam on any date between the arrival date and exit date stated on your e-visa for Vietnam. Please note that earlier entry is also not allowed.
Can I enter Vietnam through any port of entry with an e-visa?
Vietnam e-visa holders can enter Vietnam through the 42 designated ports (land/sea/air).

  • Some of the major international e-visa entry ports are Tan Son Nhat Int. Airport (Ho Chi Minh City), Noi Bai Int. Airport (Ha Noi), Cat Bi Int Airport (Hai Phong), Da Nang International Airport, and Cam Ranh Int Airport (Khanh Hoa).
Can my Vietnam e-visa get rejected at the immigration?
No, the Vietnam e-visa is generally not rejected at the immigration checkpoint.
However, you might be refused entry in cases where:
  • The validity of your Vietnam visa has expired.
  • A change in your situation goes against the eligibility criteria for issuing a Vietnam visa. For example, your passport is no longer valid for 6 months.
Can Indians get a Vietnam visa on arrival?
Yes, Indians can obtain a Vietnam visa on arrival. However, before you travel, you must first secure a pre-approval letter from a Vietnamese visa authorised platform like Atlys.
Note: The Vietnam pre-approval letter is only valid for entry by flight and not via land or sea.
Can I extend my e-visa while in Vietnam?
No, a Vietnam visa is non-extendable. However, if you wish to stay longer, you can request an agency/organisation/individual in Vietnam to guarantee your stay and apply for a new visa on your behalf at the Vietnam Immigration Department.

Note: Overstaying on a visa is highly discouraged. The Government of Vietnam has recently increased the penalties for visa overstays, and fines can be substantial. Moreover, processing exit visas for cases involving visa overstays can take one to two weeks and longer for more complex cases. Therefore, you must apply for a visa extension before your current visa expires.
Do I need a transit visa for Vietnam?
If you're just transiting through Vietnam on a connecting flight and don’t need to leave the airport, you generally don’t need a transit visa. However, if you need to pick up your luggage or go through immigration, you will require a Vietnam transit visa.

Tip: Check with your airline to see if you need a transit visa. If you are still unsure, it’s safer to apply for a visa.
Can I change the purpose of my visit after receiving the Vietnam e-visa?
No, the purpose of your visit, as stated in your e-visa application, cannot be changed after the visa is issued. If your travel purpose changes, you will need to apply for a new visa that reflects the correct purpose.

Recommendation: Ensure that you select the correct purpose of visit when applying for your e-visa to avoid the need for reapplication.
Is the Vietnam e-visa cost refundable?
Yes, if your Vietnam visa application is rejected when applying through Atlys, the fee will be refunded, subject to applicable terms and conditions.

Note: The Vietnam visa fee is non-refundable if you apply through the government website.
